Make Sure Your Anatomical Gifts Are Honored

In general, any person over the age of 18 (if in sound mind) may make a gift of any body part or whole body, to take effect at death.

Anatomical gifts may be made by will or by a separate document, such as a durable power of attorney. If the gift is through a will, the gift is effective on the death of the individual and is not delayed by probate.

If a person wishes to donate an anatomical gift, it is important that they advise their personal representative, family members and primary physician, so their wishes can be followed at their time of death.
